You Don't Need A New Year, Just A New Week!
You've enjoyed your weekend, the diet may not have been the best, you might not have slept as much as you'd like in your effort to have some form of social life that the working week never seems to allow.
da da da da.....da da da da.....da da da da.....
That god damn alarm sounds and signals the end of the weekend. I'd love to see some stats on positive vs negative Facebook status updates by the day, I'd put good money on Monday being home to a landslide of negativity!!
The first thought that passes through most people's heads is a quick calculation to work out the number of hours until they can get back in bed.
With all this lack of affection for the start of a new week, Monday's real potential is over looked!!
As we hover around the mid point of the year we're still a good six months from when the masses will be planning to address their flaws, fitness related or otherwise, citing New Years Day as the time for change.
I want to let you know we don't need a new year! Why don't we use the dreaded Monday and spark a change with the coming new week instead? We have 26 of them between now and 2019. That's a decent number of opportunities to adopt some positive and healthy changes in your life.
Speaking from my personal experience it's no secret I hate Monday as much as the next man. I know this and try to make conscious efforts to not let it defeat me. I'll watch some motivational YouTube Clips over breakfast, listen to some loud tunage in the car to get my day off on the right foot.
From a training perspective no matter how bad I feel my session will be I make sure I always train on a Monday. By doing this for the last 15 years I've made Monday always work for me. Sticking to this personal ritual has helped me stay consistent with my work in the gym and allowed me to make constant steady progress over all those years. It just sets my week up right! I take care of Monday and the rest of the week takes care of me.
So today try not to hate on Monday too much. Instead to take your mind off the end of the weekend set your sights on a new challenge other than just trying to survive the day without punching somebody (or yourself) in the face.
Make some progress in some way!
Break a bad habit!
Get a ball rolling that you had previously set to deal with in January!
Do it today, or next Monday and get a 6 month head start!!
Stop seeing Monday as the end of the world and make it the start of something great!!
