The Ripple Effect.
Following on from last weeks's blog post about Ferocious Passion, I wanted to outline something I've witnessed happening an increasing amount in my life over the past year and I've termed 'The Ripple Effect'.
The ferocious passion post came out of my ever evolving realisation of just how much I love the role I fulfil everyday at Sweat Shed, I want to say my job, but it's hard to refer to it as that because never for a single second in the week do I feel like I'm 'at work', if anything, I'm at home.
People have been very kind to me and Sweat Shed throughout the time we've been in business. The things that have been said, posted on Facebook, emailed, texted, tweeted and commented on YouTube have all been so positive and complimentary about the work we get done at the gym.
Loads of the guys claiming that training here is one of the highlights of their week, where they can always rely on the sessions to cheer them up and turn their mood around, improving self-confidence, attitude and overall approaches to their life and lifestyle.
It feels amazing knowing that doing the one thing I'm truly passionate about on a daily basis, and just living my life doing what I do, staying upbeat and hyped on life, can help bring smiles to others, make them feel better about themselves, take them away from the 'rat-race' & 'daily grind' even if it's only for an hour or so, to the land of 'Getting-Better-By-The-Day'.
IT'S SOME SERIOUS STUFF WHEN YOU'RE DEALING WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S HAPPINESS ON A DAILY BASIS!
Just last week there was a great example of just how much myself (and other fitness professionals like me and those in other public services) can have huge influences on the lives of those who cross their path.
A session last week was a tough one even by our standards, we ran over a little, it was a killer and yet everybody in the session came back at it with their 'A-game', there were grunts and grimaces as well as smiles and laughter, the whole session from start to end and everything attached to it was immense!!
Everybody left beaming, then from the status updates, emails and texts I received after, it was clear that the hyped up energy went home with all those Sweat Shedders and spread into the rest of their home and work life! People were BUZZING!! and I'm proud to say I had a little hand in doing that. I caused a positive ripple!
Exercise can be a crutch to us all, helping us to see it through to tomorrow, for many it's an oasis of activity, a break from their day that gets their blood pumping and juices flowing bringing them back to life! I know it does this for me, I'm never happier in my day than when I'm training, everything else fades away!
Training has done a lot for me over the years, I want to pay it forward and bring the positive effects of a hard workout and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone to as many others as I can. I have positivity and motivation for days and I try to pass that onto all the guys training at Sweat Shed. Positivity breeds positivity!
This is where 'The Ripple Effect' comes in, everybody is capable of causing their own ripple effect and with mine I want to infect everybody with the passion I have for training, which in turn hopefully will bring more and more positivity into their life like it has done for me!
Day after day I'm working on providing the best experience and atmosphere I possibly can for everybody who walks through my gym door to train! That's the start of the ripple.
It's working, the team spirit in sessions in our little Shed is at an all time high, regardless if clients have been there from day 1 or have only been there a few weeks, I hope each and every one feels part of the family. It's great to see others supporting, encouraging and challenging the person next to them to do more and achieve more as well.
But it's time to take this outside (like George Michael once said) we shouldn't confine these ripples to the four walls of the gym or your Facebook feed.
All you guys going away feeling de-stressed, positive, happy, confident, full of life, need to be aware of the potential power you have to change your immediate environment by simply sharing the HYPE you feel from your training! - not in a preachy 'you really need to exercise' or 'eat better' kind of way - More in a 'You need to be a Go Getter!' a 'You should really be attacking life in a BAD-ASS-DONT-MESS-WITH-ME!’ kinda way!
My job, our job as this world's positive thinkers, do'ers and general all round 'Get-Shit-Done'ers' is to keep radiating these positive ripples anytime we can. Every time we have the opportunity to pass on the jacked up feelings we have to other perhaps not so hyped up people....WE MUST DO IT!!
SMILE AT EVERYBODY TODAY!
Talk to anybody who will listen, tell them a funny story from your weekend, invite them to join you for a coffee?
Encourage somebody! Build somebody up in some way! Tell them they can do something they are procrastinating over!
GET SOMEBODY HYPED UP! JUST ON HOW WICKED TODAY COULD POTENTIALLY BE!!
Improve your immediate surroundings from the inside out, the people's moods around you, the environments (home/work/gym) where you spend time, can all be massively changed for the better by little old you! Just by passing on somebody else's positive ripple that you received or even by starting off one of your own!
Now go to it!! All those that are in.... I request the highest of metaphorical high fives!
Don't be that dick we all know sending out the ripples of negativity.... Move on into your day, surfing a badass ripple, ploughing through all negative barriers ONLY promoting the positive and SPREAD SOME ASS KICKING HYPENESS into everything you do!! We can all be part of a positive ripple right now!!
