It’s Only Christmas!!
They say Christmas comes but once a year and in some peoples cases that's a really good thing!
I love the festive period as much as the next person but from a work point of view, myself and probably every other trainer under the sun hates it!!
I know!? lets spend a whole month FUCKING UP!! all the Shit we've been working on leading up to this point...Yeah Great Idea!!
It's the time of year clients get flakey, sessions get quiet, and I personally cannot wait for January... where, even if it's only for 3 weeks everybody walks into every session full of enthusiasm!!
December see's people picking up all kinds of bugs some real, some imaginary, some self-inflicted! They treat themselves with day after day of inactivity and endless treats. They get stressed and bogged down with present buying and working extra hours to finish up for Christmas break.
So their training slips even further down on the priority list and with a "New Year" just around the corner, what's 3-4 weeks of sloth like behaviour?? Because when Jan gets here, they're gonna 'SMASH IT!'
Bollocks to that!! Business as usual!! Granted some gyms may be on slightly reduced opening hours, but the work load that is your 'health and fitness' SHOULD NOT shut down for Christmas!!
Why spend January correcting all of Decembers wrongs?! Why cover old ground?! Why not continue some level of activity through the festive period and hit the ground running in January?!
You may have 1..2.. Christmas Do's, there's Christmas Eve and Day and Boxing Day, then there's New Years Eve, throw in 4 days of hang overs and forget '12 Days of Christmas' we have our '10 Days of Sin'
BUT that still leaves 2/3 of the month where there isn't really any excuse??
When it comes to the "loads-of-time-off" "no-time-off" conundrum, it doesn't really matter what side of the fence you are on.
'Loads of time off' - depending on family commitments, there is Sweet FA to do!!!! Crap TV, Relatives you don't want to spend too much time with, you're skint and the pubs are shut!! So step away from the selection box and go move!! Go do something!! Swim! Run! Bike! Walk! Anything!!
'No time off' - Even better!! What's your problem? You're routine is hardly effected... So stick with as much of your regular training plan as you can. The little hiccups Christmas brings to your life will all be over in a week or two.
Just because somebody buys you 10 boxes of chocolate doesn't mean you have to eat them!
Just because your gym is closed or shuts a little earlier in the evening does not mean you have a get out clause to be lazy!!
Just because the man of the hour all through December is a big fat mince pie munching fella, doesn't mean you should adopt him as a role model for a month!!!
Don't accept the Christmas bulge, actively fight back with operation damage limitation if nothing else!? When 2019 does arrive you'll be glad you did!
If I don't see or hear from you between now and then, have a good one!! See you on the other side!!
